KNOWLedge, learning, creativity
Østreng is a meeting place for research and practical exploration of sustainable farming which involves smaller flocks of animals. We organize courses, tuition and horse training.
Stable and courses
At Østreng, we hope to contribute to harmonical horse-human relations filled with calmness and mindfulness. We strive towards ensuring that all the horses get to unfold their personalities and grow to become confident in a well-functioning herd. Individual exercise and activities.
Stall Østreng regularly arranges clinics in Academic art of riding, and offer tailored private tuition classes.
Sheep and wool
At Østreng you will meet a small herd of Old Norwegian Short Tail Landrace Sheep that controls and graze in the outdoor areas. The sheep alternate pastures with the horses during the summer months.
The Old Norwegian Short Tail Landrace Sheep is one of the oldest breeds in Norway and is especially hardy, well equipped for the Nordic nature. Their flock behaviour is particularly strong.
The sheep produce dense and strong wool with fine colours and strong fibers. The wool from the Østreng sheep gets spun and prepared in yarns for knitting. The wool is particularly suited for robust jackets and jumpers.
Cultivation and foraging
Herbs are harvested and foraged to Østreng’s herbal pharmacy. Here we revitalize cultural historical practices for cultivation and foraging.
Our production of ointments and teas is inspired by old cultural historical techniques and recipes combined with recent research within pharmacy and medicine.
